Gorge Wildlife Park Field Trip

There was a good turnout of members for our field trip on a cold Sunday morning on June 2 at the Gorge Wildlife Park. Our Club's sincere thanks go out to Helen Whitford from Blackwood Photographic Club who was kind enough to give up her time to provide guidance in the challenges of photographing animals.  Please have a look at our gallery for a taste of what our members got up to on the day.  Of course, this event was all about providing our member's an opportunity to take photos for one of our next competition categories.... Wildlife and Animals.  We're looking forward to seeing some of those on June 26.

Upcoming Inter-club Competitions

2019 Australian Cup

The 2019 Australian Cup is underway.  The Club Sub-committee (Tony Endersby and Roy McDougall) has selected and submitted the 20 images for this year's competition.  Results will be available on July 20.  Let's see if we can beat our results from last year...  the Top South Australian club!

2019 Southern Districts Competition

The 2019 Southern Districts Competition will be held at the Strathalbyn Agricultural Show Hall, Coronation Rd, Strathalbyn on August 24, 2019.  Details for the event are being finalised.  The Club Sub-committee (Michele Williams, Tony Endersby and Roy McDougall) will be selecting images soon.  Photos will be selected from any which haven't previously been used in the event, but primarily from Club Competition images submitted after last year's Southern Districts Competition and any images which you'd like to be considered.

If you'd like to submit any photos (all Competition media categories, projected digital and print, are Open), then send the highest resolution you have to the Club's Competition Secretary (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).  The Sub-committee will only include an image in the Print category if it has sufficient resolution to produce a high quality print.  Lower resolution images will only be considered for digital projection and must be at least 1920 x 1080 pixels.

Last Meeting, Presentation: 7.30pm, Wednesday June 12, 2019

Two of our members, Brian Cartwright and Graham Taylor, gave a presentation on photographic post-processing software and techniques.  Graham highlighted the fact that cameras do not record exactly what our eyes and mind see and how to compensate for that using digital image processing techniques, with examples in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.  Brian focused on demonstrating several post-processing approaches, largely using freely available software available for Microsoft Windows, including FastStone Image Viewer and Topaz Studio (free edition).  Many thanks to Brian and Graham for sharing their time and knowledge with other Club members.

Next Meeting, Competition: 7.30pm, Wednesday June 26, 2019

It's Competition night again, with the following categories -

  • PRINT COLOUR – Wildlife/Animal photography
  • DIGITAL COLOUR – Reflections

As always, the Competition is open to current members.  So, search through your photo library, get out and about with your camera and send your images to the Competition Secretary by 7pm, Sunday June 23.  Remember, that entering our Competitions is a great way to get constructive feedback on your images from experienced judges.  It's a rewarding way to help you progress the many photographic techniques that come together to make high quality photographs.
